I use to email myself a lot of assignments so that I would have a backup of them. Today I decided that I’m going to use gmail for all my school work backup. I have a second gmail that I really only ever used for pokerroom.com. Since I’m not using that anymore, its now my backup space.
I email myself everything I do, and use it almost as a word processor, since it auto-saves everything. We’ll see how it goes. I don’t see why it won’t work at this point.

Might just want to think about using Google docs. Same account info will work, you have all the good/bad of storing things with Google, and you get much better editing capabilities, plus you can share documents with other users if you want.

Is google docs search-able like Gmail? That’s why I’m using gmail right now. I’m using a tagging/subject method that makes it easy for me to find the thing I’m looking for.
I’ve also never really liked the google docs interface. It’s too similar to word and too complicated for what I need. Gmail is simple and effective.

The tagging seems to basically be done with folders, although personally I think calling them folders was a mistake, since you can have an item in more than one folder at once (choose “Add to Folder” instead of “Move to Folder”). So that’s basically tagging.
Search seems effective. There’s a search field, and it does what I expect it to.
As far as interface, nothing says you’ve gotta use all the features. I mean, if the gmail editor is sufficient, you can just ignore the other options in docs, but they’ll still be available if you need them.
Anyway, it’s your call. It just sounds a bit like when people first start writing webapps and think flat text files are “all we need” then have to migrate to sql in three months. No reason to take away options just because you don’t feel you’ll need them yet.
