My laptop died tonight. I have no idea why. It doesn’t do anything when you power it on. The fan comes on, but that’s about it.
This also happened while the FLL kids were using it and they have programs for their robot on it. Now you see why this is so fun? I’m going to connect the laptop HD to my external enclosure and see what I can get off of it. I’m pretty sure that the HD is fine. Something is probably dead on the motherboard, meaning the whole thing is dead.
So now I want a Macbook pro. Why pro? For the video card and the 15” screen. The only laptop I think I would consider other than a Mac would be a Lenovo and for one huge reason, track point. Why haven’t other manufacturers adopted these? They save a ton of space at the bottom of the keyboard and they’re much more comfortable to type/mouse around on.
I was also thinking about a tablet too. Let the debate begin? Why should I not get a Mac? Why does Lenovo insist on taking jobs away from the American worker? Can you really still carve things in a tablet?

You should get a Mac, because the new version of Parallels is absolutely beastly and Macs are generally nice computers.
They are, of course, a bit pricier, but compared to a Lenovo they don’t seem that bad.

First, don’t want to burst your bubble but Lenovos have the trackpad the trackpoint, so no real savings in space. That said, my T60 is a 14.1″ screen (they have a 15.4″ option) and the keyboard is great. You can disable the trackpad in pretty much any OS you put on the thing and the trackpoint is really pretty good. It also comes with like 3 or 4 different nubs if the default one doesn’t feel good to you.
Also, both are rather expensive but have their advantages. Macs are shiny. Lenovos are built like tanks only much lighter, and replacement parts are incredibly cheap and easy to install. And you can get the IBM employee pricing, since I know several people at IBM right now who would give me their “Friends and Family” login info no sweat, which gets you the same discount as a normal employee AND is totally legit. The savings can be pretty substantial.

I think you know where my vote is. (Hint. Typing this comment in Safari. Also, I really want a Macbook now. Moriah accidentally bounced mine and the button sticks and the latch shattered so it doesn’t stay shut anymore. Many tears.

I’m going to go to his house and have a swing your laptop around by its screen contest. I bet mine wins. :-P
