School’s Out

Finals are over, woot!  I have nothing to do Wednesday, then I leave for the NC for a long weekend.  Should be a good time.  I don’t think I’ll top my best semester ever this time, but it won’t be bad.  I’m thinking two As, a B and 2Cs, but one of the Cs could become a B depending on the final I took today, which I think I did pretty well on.

The first piece of the DVR arrived today in the form of a motherboard.  The case is expected to be here on Thursday, which sucks cause I’ll be gone.  Hopefully it arrives in Windsor tonight so then it can be delivered tomorrow.  Since the motherboard came today I put the RAM and CPU into it because I’m an antsy son of a bitch.  I was going to put the PCI cards and crap in, but that would just make it a bitch to mount the motherboard.

Also, I wanted some people’s opinions on something.  I’ll have a 120gig HD in the DVR and probably the 20gig laptop drive.  Should I run XP off of the laptop drive and use the 120 just for storage?  I’m thinking that will divide the strain up a little bit since then it would be operating off of one drive, but writing the video to another.  Since it’s almost always writing to the HD (the ‘pause tv thing), I figure it might be faster to do it to another drive.  But, the laptop drive is 5400rpm so it could slow everything down.  Or, I could attempt the 40gig drive that I though was dying, that may work.

So, three options:  OS on the 20g laptop, OS on the 40g, or all on one 120g?

Since I now have a decent amount of parts upstairs that have no use, I think I’m going to e-bay them.  At least the mini-itx has to go.  I admit, I kind of made a bad call on that one.  It wasn’t powerful enough to do much multimedia at all.  I think I could get $40 for that board.  I don’t know what else people would want though.  I have an old MicronPC motherboard, but I don’t think anyone would want that.  If you do, let me know.  I also have that case, which I’ll probably just chuck.  Although there’s a decent power supply in there.  Plus, Greg has my old monitor which freed up tons of space in the corner of my room.  I think I may just put all my random PC crap in that corner now, but somewhat organized.

I think that’s enough for now.
